Violence Will Not Undermine the Freedom to Worship for Muslims or Anyone Else

Mar 15, 2019 Issues: National Security

Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) issued the following statement after a terrorist attack that killed 49 worshippers at 2 mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand:

“To the Muslim community at home and around the world, know that your safety, security, and freedom will never be undermined because of hate or violence. My love goes to the Muslim community in Christchurch and loved ones of those lost. Whether in Pittsburgh, Christchurch, Charleston, or elsewhere, terrorism is challenging our world. World leaders need to reject the language of hate and do more to bring people together again. The right to freely and safely worship is fundamental to the United States Constitution—it is at the core of who we are as a nation. I stand with the Muslim community against anyone who would use words or violence to breed fear.”
