Payne Statement on Announcement that Secretary Napolitano Will Step Down from Post at the Department of Homeland Security

Jul 12, 2013 Issues: National Security

Washington, D.C – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) released the following statement after the announcement that Secretary Janet Napolitano will be stepping down as Secretary of Homeland Security:

“I want to congratulate Secretary Napolitano on being appointed the next President of the University of California system. This prestigious post is a well-deserved honor and a tremendous opportunity. During the last four years, Secretary Napolitano has led the fight in protecting our country from attacks and has been proactive in her responses in times of natural disasters, especially with her efforts in leading both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with prompt rescue responses during and after Hurricane Sandy. Her advocacy for just immigration reform has significantly moved the conversation in a positive direction, and her leadership at DHS will be missed. The students and faculty at the University of California are lucky to have her as a phenomenal leader, and I wish her the best of luck in her new role.”
