“My heart aches for the loss of a great man, Chairman Phil Thigpen, who was a close, loved one and a true guiding force in my life.  With the passing of Chairman Thigpen, the State of New Jersey mourns the loss of a political giant that will truly be missed.

“Words cannot express how much Phil meant to me and my family throughout the years. As cousins, my father and Phil spent their personal and political lives together.  Growing up, I had the privilege of learning from the Chairman as he graciously dedicated his life to building a tremendous legacy here in New Jersey, one committed to strengthening the core principles upon which the Democratic Party was built like creating ladders of opportunity, lifting working families out of poverty, growing our middle class, and protecting our most vulnerable.

“Personally, the Chairman has played an instrumental role in my life, taking on an even greater role with the passing of my father. I could always count on him to help guide me through some of the most difficult choices and tough times I faced in my life. My deepest condolences go out to his wife, Ernestine; Phil, Jr., David, and Rick; and the entire Thigpen Family.”
