Payne, Jr. Statement on Trump Infrastructure Priorities

Jan 25, 2017 Issues: Infrastructure and Transportation

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), a recently appointed member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, issued the following statement today after McClatchy published a preliminary list of infrastructure priorities under the Trump administration, including the Gateway project to expand rail service between New Jersey and New York:

“Investments in our transportation infrastructure are essential not only to the efficiency and safety of that infrastructure, but also to our regional and national economy. Democrats have been fighting for significant infrastructure investments for quite some time, in the face of overwhelming Republican opposition. I’m hopeful that Republicans will finally recognize the urgent need to improve the conditions of our nation’s infrastructure and work with Democrats to make necessary investments, including in the Gateway project. I will continue to work with partners at the federal and state level to advance this project and advocate for meaningful investments to meet our transportation needs.”
