Payne, Jr. Statement on Reports of Trump Administration Proposal to Fund Border Wall with Cuts to Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA

March 8, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, issued the following statement on news reports that the Trump administration plans to cut the budgets of the Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to fund the president’s border wall:

“This has to be one of the dumbest proposals to come from the Trump administration. The idea that this administration would cut funding for successful national security programs to pay for a grossly ineffective border wall defies common sense. They clearly have no idea of what it takes to protect this nation. We’re seeing once again why President Trump is unfit to lead and to keep the American people safe.”
