Payne, Jr. Statement on New CBO Score of Health Bill

May 24, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its analysis of the House-passed version of Trumpcare:

“Trumpcare pulls the rug out from under millions of Americans—and then slaps them in the face with it.

“Today, the CBO confirmed that Trumpcare will increase the number of uninsured Americans by 23 million, ruin insurance markets, and lead to extremely high premiums for people with pre-existing conditions, putting health insurance out of their reach. It’s no wonder why Republicans rushed the bill through the House without a CBO score.

“Trumpcare is not about making sure that Americans have access to affordable, quality care. It’s about decreasing spending at the expense of human lives.

“I oppose this bill, and I urge the Senate to do the same.”

CBO estimates that Trumpcare would increase the number of people uninsured by 14 million in 2018 and 23 million in 2026.
