Payne, Jr. Statement on Gov. Christie’s Decision to Require Lead Testing in Schools

May 2, 2016

Newark, N.J.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) released the following statement today after Governor Chris Christie announced that he will require New Jersey’s public schools to test for lead in water:

“I welcome Governor Christie’s decision. Since the lead crisis in Newark public schools broke, I have called for action to ensure transparent monitoring of drinking water and have introduced federal legislation to spur testing of drinking water for lead in our nation’s schools. Congress should swiftly approve my TEST for Lead Act so that we can protect children across the country from the harms of lead contamination.”
