Payne, Jr. Heartbroken and Angry at Another Tragic Mass Shooting

August 5, 2019

WASHINGTON - My condolences and prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims in two more horrific mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton this weekend.

I’m horrified and heartbroken that these events occur with such regularity. There have been 251 mass shootings already this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, that have needlessly killed about 9,000 people, including almost 400 children. That’s more shootings than days of the year.

But I’m also really, REALLY angry that nothing gets done. We, the House Democrats, fight and strive to keep guns out of the hands of hateful, aggressive people. We’ve passed legislation and sent it to the Senate… where they won’t even own their Constitutional responsibility and discuss it.

It’s disgraceful that the inaction of Trump and his Senate allies continues to allow attacks on American citizens. With his words and actions, Trump’s legacy will be one of hate, prejudice and violence.

That won’t stop me from keeping Americans safe from gun violence. I’m not going to give up… EVER… until we have laws that keep guns out of the hands of angry, homicidal criminals. We need to stop Americans from becoming targets!”
