Payne, Jr. Applauds U.S. Treasury Plan to Add Woman to $10 Bill

Jun 18, 2015 Issues: Economy and Jobs

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) today released the following statement after the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that a woman will appear on the $10 bill starting in 2020:

“I welcome the Treasury’s plan to add a woman to our paper currency. The redesign will honor the invaluable accomplishments and contributions women have made to our nation throughout its history.

“The Treasury’s announcement should remind us that significant work remains to meet our nation’s promise of full equality for all. This means putting an immediate end to the discriminatory burdens of the pay gap and providing our mothers, wives, and daughters with the quality of life that they deserve.

“The new $10 bill will serve as an inspiration to young women and girls across the country. I encourage my constituents to make their voices heard about which historical woman should appear on the redesigned bill.”
