Payne, Jr. Applauds Executive Actions to Reduce Gun Violence

Jan 5, 2016

Washington, D.C.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) today released the following statement after President Obama announced new executive actions to reduce gun violence by expanding criminal background checks:

“I applaud President Obama for taking meaningful steps to stop the terrible trend of gun violence through these executive actions. If we can keep one gun out of the wrong hands, if we can save one life, then we must. These executive actions send a message that our nation will not tolerate gun tragedies in our communities, nor will we ignore the senseless killing of innocent lives. Congress must listen to the American people and pass lasting gun reform that strengthens the safety of our communities.”

Last month, Congressman Payne, Jr. introduced the Safer Neighborhoods Gun Buyback Act of 2015, a bill that increases incentives to sell back guns around the country, provides a stimulus to the economy, and recycles the sold guns into environmentally-friendly objects.
