Payne, Jr. Announces Workforce Development Grant for Jersey City

August 21, 2015

Jersey City, N.J. – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) announced Innovative Public Transportation Workforce Development Program (Ladders of Opportunity Initiative) funding in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration. The Jersey City Employment and Training Program (JCETP) will receive $604,896 in funding.

“I am pleased to announce this workforce development grant that will be put to good use in Jersey City,” said Congressman Payne, Jr. “These funds will provide the training necessary for New Jerseyans to find well-paying jobs in the transportation industry and strengthen our transit system. This is a critical investment in our workers and our economy.”

“Jersey City Employment and Training is working hard to fulfill Mayor Fulop’s vision of providing opportunity for workers to increase their skills,” said JCETP Executive Director Jim McGreevey. “With increased skills, there are better jobs, better wages, and stronger families. We are grateful to Congressman Payne, Jr. for advocating for Jersey City families to move closer to Mayor Fulop’s goal of better skilled workers.”

The Innovative Public Transportation Workforce Development Program assists local public transit agencies, non-profits, and institutions of higher education in developing competitive transportation workforces.
