Payne Congratulates Newark’s Riverfront Park on Smart Growth Achievement Award

Newark, N.J.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) today congratulated Newark’s Riverfront Park on winning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Award for Smart Growth Achievement. The award recognizes and supports communities that use innovative policies and strategies to develop in ways that protect the environment, strengthen their economies, and provide housing and transportation choices. Riverfront Park was recognized for outstanding achievement in the category of Plazas, Parks, and Public Places.

“I am pleased to offer my congratulations to Riverfront Park on winning the National Award for Smart Growth Achievement for their success in revitalizing Newark’s waterfront,” said Congressman Payne, Jr. “The park is essential to economic growth in the area and serves as a symbol of restoration that the entire community can unite behind.”

Riverfront Park reconnects Newark to the Passaic River and is attracting economic development in the adjacent downtown area.
