Washington, D.C. – Today Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) applauded President Barack Obama for issuing a Presidential Proclamation designating March 2015 as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

“Too many people believe colorectal cancer screenings are invasive, and they put off getting tested. But the truth is, it’s a simple process that can save your life.

“It is critical that we eliminate the stigmas that surround colorectal cancer—a deadly but often preventable disease—and work across all levels to raise awareness about the importance of screening and early detection.

“Together, we can advance the fight against colorectal cancer and lessen the needless loss of life.

“I thank President Obama for declaring March 2015 National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. I am honored to have him join the colorectal cancer community in our efforts to save lives and reduce the suffering caused by this disease.”
