Rep. Payne, Jr.'s Statement on the CMS Letter to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. issued the following statement about the letter from the Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. CMS officials found that the medical center’s transplant program failed to fix several mistakes repeatedly and put patients in “immediate jeopardy.”
"I find the situation regarding the treatment and care of patients at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to be very troubling," said Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. "I have read the letter to Newark Beth Israel from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that identified serious deficiencies and some corrective actions concerning this issue. Based on my communications with the hospital, I believe the situation is movingin the right direction at this time and I will continue to monitor it."
