Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.'s Welcomes Homeownership Opportunties for District Residents

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. issued the following statement in support of Wells Fargo's Essex County NeighborhoodLIFT program.

"I am excited and honored to lead the effort to bring this program to Essex County and Newark. I have been pleased to work with the federal affairs team in Washington to help bring this unique Neighborhood LIFT program to Newark.

Homeownership is the American Dream and saving for a down payment is the key to making that dream a reality. This down payment assistance for my fellow New Jerseyans will make a huge difference in their future. I look forward to working with non-profits and other stakeholders in our community to make the most of this effort.

I have been working for months to provide more capital to my neighbors across the county. The NeighborhoodLIFT program will provide $20,000 grants to create 180 homeowners in Essex County at a time when it is desperately needed. Wells Fargo will offer the new owners homebuyer counseling along with the $20,000 down payment assistant grants. I am proud to partner with them and I look forward to seeing what other projects we might bring to the district in the future."
