Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. helped pass The Rights for the Transportation Security Administration Workforce Act of 2022 today. The bill (H.R. 903) provides the same workplace rights and protections for Transportation Security Administration workers as other frontline federal workers. The bill allows these workers to have opportunities to increase pay, engage in collective bargaining, and appeal disciplinary actions.

"TSA employees are essential to the safety of millions of American passengers," said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. "They stayed on the job to protect us and our country during the COVID-19 pandemic and we must support them for their efforts. I am proud to support a bill that gives these workers the same benefits as other federal employees. TSA workers made tremendous sacrifices to be on the front lines during our public health crisis and now this bill could help them get the pay and benefits they deserve."

Rep. Payne, Jr. has been a champion of TSA workers throughout his time in Congress. Rep. Payne, Jr. introduced the Hazardous Duty Pay for Frontline Workers Act, which allows federal workers to qualify for hazard pay under certain conditions. The workers qualify if they have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 directly in the course of their job duties. In addition, Rep. Payne, Jr. has consistently cosponsored legislation to expand the workplace rights of Transportation Security Agents and helped pass The Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act in a previous Congress.
