Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. released the following statement on the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) announcement that the Portal North Bridge Project will receive $248 million in funding.
“This is great news for New Jersey and New York,” said Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. “The new Portal North Bridge Project will create jobs and improve transportation for thousands of workers and families in both states. It is a critical bridge for all Americans who travel the Atlantic coast. I want to thank the FTA for approving these funds and look forward to the completion of this new bridge.”
The FTA will allocate $248 million from Capital Investment Grants (CIG) funding from fiscal year 2018 and 2019 to the Hudson County Portal North Bridge Project. The project is a new, two-track railroad bridge across the Hackensack River in Hudson County, New Jersey, along the Northeast Corridor (NEC). It will replace the existing bridge, which is more than 100 years old and represents a significant operational bottleneck. The FTA has committed the funds to the project, but they won’t be distributed until the project is fully approved.
