Rep. Payne, Jr. Furious over Rayshard Brooks Killing

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. released the following statement concerning the death of Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old African American who was killed Friday after a confrontation with police in the parking lot of a Wendy's restaurant in Atlanta, GA.

"I don't know how many examples we need to show that black lives matter," said Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. "This is why millions of Americans have been protesting across the country. We must change the way law enforcement deals with our community nationwide. There is no way the Atlanta police would have shot a white customer to death if he fell asleep in a fast food drive-through lane. We must work with local police and improve training until we get true equality under the law."
