Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. supports the Congressional resolution released today that calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump based on two violations of his oath of office: abuse of power and obstruction of justice.

"The recent hearings proved that the president tried to use American aid to force the Ukrainian leader to investigate a political rival and then covered up Congressional efforts to investigate it," said Congressman Payne, Jr. "These actions are the very definition of bribery and obstruction of justice and they happened after the Mueller report outlined 10 other potential violations of his oath of office. Congress has the responsibility to impeach presidents when they abuse their authority for personal gain and put their own interests above the public good. I am proud of my colleagues for their work to investigate his behavior, draft these articles of impeachment, and hold the president accountable for his actions. No one is above the law."
