Washington, D.C. Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. announced today that a new disaster recovery center opened October 5, 2021 in Union County. Representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration are at the center to help residents affected by Tropical Storm Ida understand disaster assistance programs and apply for flood-related aid.

"Many Union County residents suffered significant flood damage during Tropical Storm Ida," said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. "The officials at this center will help them get the resources they need to repair walls and basements as well as replace items they lost during the flood."

The center location and hours of operation are:

Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue, Cranford, N.J. 07016

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST

Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Officials have taken steps to ensure the safety of everyone who visits the center and recommends visitors wear masks. The center is focused on Union County residents, but it is open to residents of Bergen, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Warren counties who have suffered flood damage. If you live in those counties, visit fema.gov/drc for a disaster recovery center near you.

In addition, officials advise homeowners or renters with insurance against flood damage to apply for a claim immediately. FEMA is unable to duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance.
