Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. released this statement on the 56th anniversary of the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964.  The Act ended segregation and job discrimination based on race, religion, sex or national origin nationwide.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. voted for a bill to extend the popular Paycheck Protection Program yesterday.  The application deadline for the program, designed to help small business owners pay to retain employees as well as expenses, had expired.  The new bill would extend the application deadline for new loans until August 8, 2020.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. co-sponsored the COVID-19 Homeowner Assistance Fund Act today.  The $75 billion bill (H.R. 6729) would provide financial assistance to homeowners who are struggling to pay their mortgage during the coronavirus global pandemic.  It would help them pay their mortgage as well as property taxes, property insurance, utilities, and other housing-related costs to prevent foreclosures.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. co-sponsored the Moving Forward Act today.  The $1.5 trillion bill (H.R. 2) would provide funds to build or repair critical roads, bridges and other infrastructure throughout the country as well as build schools, create new housing, and expand the nation’s broadband Internet access.  In addition, it would allocate at least $7.6 billion for rail projects along the Northeast Corridor, such as the Hudson River Tunnel.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. praised the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for its decision to advance the Portal North Bridge project to the engineering phase of the Capital Investment Grant program. This decision brings the project one step closer to construction. The new $1.5 billion bridge would be built to support faster, safer, and more frequent trains between Newark and New York City.
