House Backs Bill on Medical Emergency Prep

The House advanced a medical preparedness bill, HR 1791, which included language offered by Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. that would require that medical kits and diagnostics be used to protect first responders and their families, immediate victims, and vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities and those in underserved communities. Rep. Payne, Jr. said that grant recipients have an obligation to protect first responders and “the most vulnerable in our communities” when disasters strike.
