Federal grant will allow Jersey City to hire 30 new firefighters

The Jersey City Fire Department received a $6.87 million federal grant for the Jersey City Fire Department that will help replace or retain 49 firefighters who either previously retired or whose positions were slated for elimination due to municipal budget constraints. The department intends to hire 30 new firefighters.

Bill Would Provide Comprehensive Study Of Electric Grid Resiliency

An amendment to the National Cybersecurity & Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (NCCIP) passed by the House Committee on Homeland Security would require an “assessment of actions necessary to expand and strengthen the capabilities of the electric grid to prepare for, respond to, mitigate and recover from a natural disaster and cyber attacks.”

Grid security research bill passes House committee as amendment

The US House Homeland Security Committee Wednesday passed an amendment to a bill to put $2 million toward a study of the resiliency and reliability of the US power grid. The amendment was introduced by Rep Donald Payne, D-NJ, and was originally introduced by Payne in August as HR 2962, the Saving More American Resources Today (SMART) Grid Study Act of 2013.
