Payne, Jr. Votes Against Anti-GMO Labeling Bill

July 23, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) voted against the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act (H.R.1599), legislation that denies consumers the right to know if their food contains genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by blocking states from requiring GMO labeling. Congressman Payne, Jr. released the following statement after the vote:

“After listening to my constituents, I voted to oppose the anti-GMO labeling legislation. Consumers have a right to know what is in their food, and this bill would prevent that. I cannot in good conscience support a bill that will mislead consumers as to the contents of their food and prevent states from letting consumers know about GMO foods.”
