Payne, Jr. Statement on Racial Threat at Kean University

November 19, 2015

Washington, D.C.Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) released the following statement after a death threat was made against African-American students at Kean University in Union, New Jersey:

“I strongly condemn the reprehensible and disgusting death threat against black students at Kean University. To threaten violence against a group of people because of the color of their skin is to show a complete disregard for all human life.

“Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Threats of racial violence like these continue to happen at schools and communities across our nation, perpetuating the institutional and cultural racism and prejudice that inspired the threats in the first place.

“Students at Kean and throughout our country should not have to live in fear for their lives. I expect a swift resolution, and for Kean leadership to take immediate action to protect its students against any further threats or discrimination.”
