Payne, Jr. Statement on Appointment of Christopher Cerf as Newark Superintendent

Newark, N.J. – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) issued the following statement after the New Jersey State Board of Education approved Christopher Cerf as the superintendent of Newark Public Schools:

“We expect Mr. Cerf to set a new standard for openness and responsiveness, represent the concerns of the community, and prove that every decision he makes is in the best interest of Newark students. Our students must come first, and I expect Mr. Cerf to deliver on this priority. As we keep fighting for local control of our schools, I will continue to call for accountability on the part of those responsible for the Newark public school system.”
