Payne Introduces Resolution to Support Infrastructure Week
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, introduced a resolution expressing support for the designation of the week of May 15 through May 19, 2017, as Infrastructure Week.
“Robust and reliable infrastructure is the foundation for economic success and security,” said Congressman Payne, Jr. “But for too long, the United States has underinvested in our infrastructure, and this once vibrant foundation has crumbled. I’ve introduced this resolution because now is the time to build the infrastructure we need to grow our economy, keep Americans safe, and become more competitive. If President Trump and Republican leadership don’t hear this call and work with Democrats to make the necessary investments, our infrastructure is doomed.”
- Celebrates the dedication and contributions of the contractors and small business owners that will take part in future infrastructure projects across the Nation;
- Supports the goal of thoroughly drafting and expediently submitting a transportation and infrastructure plan to build the Nation’s roads;
- Commits to engaging diverse contractors in future infrastructure projects; and
- Calls upon the people of the United States to observe Infrastructure Week with appropriate advocacy, programs, and activities.
On May 15, Congressman Payne, Jr. joined Amtrak representatives for a Portal Bridge site tour and a briefing about the condition of the 107-year-old New Jersey bridge and the larger Gateway Program for rail infrastructure improvements along the Northeast Corridor. He discussed his tour of the Portal Bridge during a Special Order Hour on the House floor on May 16, highlighting the importance of federal infrastructure investment, particularly in the Gateway Program.
